Kamala Harris, the US vice president, finally became the official Democratic Party nominee for the November presidential elections yesterday and will give her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, which begins on August 19 in Chicago.

“Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz officially accepted the nominations today, following the close of delegate voting on Monday, August 5, and the official certification of the virtual vote by Convention Secretary Jason Rae,” the Democratic National Committee (DNC) reported.

Hours after naming Walz, the two appeared together in front of 14,000 supporters in a stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the first stop of a tour that will take them through the country’s most competitive states, key on the road to the White House.

“We have a lot of work to do. We need to level the playing field. We are the underdogs but we have momentum,” exclaimed the Democratic candidate, shielded by her brand new number two.

Harris, the first black woman to run for president of the United States, has built a candidacy in record time since Joe Biden dropped out of the race two weeks ago and knows she has no time to waste in the less than 100 days until the election.
