Harris Driven by Biden’s Exit but Unconvincing on a “Crucial Issue” –

The scenario in the US has changed significantly in a short time. On the eve of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, during which it will be possible to present ideas and projects to the country, Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, began a bus tour of Pennsylvania, a key swing state that could decide the November elections. In the meantime, polls are revealing voters’ trends and concerns. The Democratic candidate for the US presidency is ahead of her Republican opponent Donald Trump in a national poll conducted by the television channel «Abc News», the newspaper «Washington Post» and Ipsos. Driven by the enthusiasm generated by Joe Biden’s exit, especially among key components of the Democratic electorate and independent voters in key states in view of the elections, Harris’ candidacy has received a consensus percentage of 50 percent, against 45 percent for Republican Trump.

Harris-Trump, neck and neck in the polls: which are the contested states?

Among registered voters, Harris is ahead by four percentage points, 49 to 45 percent, and among likely voters the lead revealed by the poll rises to six points: 51 percent against Trump’s 45 percent. Harris’ candidacy seems to have taken away consensus above all from independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, who after having collected approval percentages close to 10 percent in the polls for months, obtained a percentage of 5 percent in the latest survey. The survey also shows that Harris is advantaged, among other things, by the fact that she is a woman: 38 percent of those interviewed explicitly cite this as a positive characteristic. “ABC News” highlights, however, that Trump surpasses Harris by a good 9 percentage points in the ability perceived by voters to manage the economy and inflation, which 85 percent of those interviewed cite as a crucial issue in determining their voting orientation. In the poll, Trump also leads his Democratic opponent by 10 percentage points in voters’ confidence in his ability to address the immigration crisis at the Mexican border.
