Washington.-Kamala Harris, the newly elected Democratic candidate, has already chosen her running mate and will officially announce it on Tuesday: it is Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota. The news was confirmed by various sources to the American media, who also say that they will begin a multi-state campaign tour starting tonight with a rally in Philadelphia.
The current vice president met on Sunday in Washington with the three considered finalists: Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Walz.
The campaign is moving forward with plans for a national tour. The trip includes Philadelphia, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada through next Saturday.
The politician had endorsed Harris’ candidacy by posting on his social media on Monday, “Thanks for the call, @KamalaHarris.” “You have my full support.”
Walz has been a vocal public defender of Harris in her campaign against Trump and Vance, calling Republicans “just weird” in an interview last month. Democrats have seized on the message and amplified it ever since.
At a fundraiser for Harris in Minneapolis on Monday, Walz said, “It wasn’t an insult to call these guys weird. It was an observation.”
Walz, 60, describes himself on his official X account as “Dad. Uncle. Husband. Teacher. Coach. Army National Guardsman. Former Congressman. Governor of Minnesota.” Born April 6, 1964, in West Point, Nebraska, Walz grew up with his three siblings in a rural community in that state. While in high school, his father was diagnosed with lung cancer and died in 1983.
A few years after finishing high school, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in social science education from Chadron State College in 1989, and later a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2001.
His role in politics began when he was 30 years old in 2004. At that time he began as a volunteer for John Kerry’s presidential campaign, but it was not until two years later, in 2006, when he ran for Congress. On that occasion, he defeated his rival and incumbent Republican Congressman Gil Gutknecht, and assumed the position in January 2007.
He taught in China thanks to his work with the WorldTeach organization, and upon his return he taught in Nebraska and Minnesota. During his time in American schools he also worked as a coach for American football teams.
Walz served in the National Guard for 24 years after enlisting in 1981. His father was a Korean War veteran.
During his military career, he held posts in Arkansas, Texas, the Arctic Circle, New Ulm, Minnesota, among others.Infobae.
