Harmless and dominated, the Standard is the big back and still snatches a point in Ghent

Football is sometimes cruel. This is undoubtedly the painful observation that the players of Ghent will make this Friday evening, those who proved unable to perforate the wall of Standard at home (0-0).

Liégeois, plucked by the absence of Laifis, Dussenne, Raskin, Amallah, Fossey ou Zinckernagel, who were, they clearly came to do the big back. Resist to snatch a point, such was the mantra of the 11 Liégeois, aligned in an onion row with the sole mission of defending.

The stats, all in favor of Ghent, are also there to testify: 21 shots to 1, 5 shots on target to nil, 13 corners to 1. Unfortunately for them, the Buffalos either stumbled on an imperial Arnaud Bodart either on a guibole which trailed of a very good Lucas Noubi (17 years old and so serene!) or on the Liège uprights (post for Hjulsager, transverse on a Vadis shell).

For its part, Standard has therefore shown absolutely nothing offensively. Perica, aligned at the forefront, has also distinguished himself more in his defensive tasks than in front of the opposing goal. And yet, the Rouches could have obtained a penalty if the VAR had not canceled a hand foul by Ngadeu whistled by the referee.

Beaten in their last two games before the break, Standard therefore timidly put an end to this negative series. But it’s probably the only thing we’ll remember this Friday. Because to see the show, goals and a desire to rush forward, we will come back.

In the standings, Ghent, whose impressive offensive form (26 goals in the last 7 matches) was stopped for one match, missed the opportunity to come back to Bruges and stuck in 5th place (31 points). Standard remains 7th with 26 units.
