The mayor of Athens spoke of very serious charges stating that “even today Officers of the Special Affairs Department of the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces, in the presence of the Prosecutor, collected documents, etc. from premises of the Building Administration”.
Haris Doukas reminds that on Tuesday 9-7-2024, the Municipality of Athens was officially informed of the names of the three arrested and the charges attributed and on the same day proceeded with the following:
1) The Mayor’s decision was issued and its service to those arrested, whereby, from 5-7-2024 – when the arrest was made – they were suspended from performing their duties and referred to the Disciplinary Council with the question of the potential holiday , which will meet on 7/25. I would like to inform here that if a temporary detention warrant is issued for the arrested following their confession, which as we have been informed begins today, with a newer decision of the Mayor they will be placed on a self-righteous holiday, in accordance with the prescribed legislation.
2) Also, on Tuesday 9/7, a decision of the Mayor was issued, which approved the submission of a statement of support for the accusation on behalf of the DA, once morest the arrested, by Lawyers of the Legal Department.
The mayor of Athens informs that following communication with the Special Corruption Investigator, the statement will be submitted on Monday 7/15/2024.
“We state unequivocally and clearly that our municipal authority will not tolerate criminal and delinquent practices, which tarnish the titanic effort of the vast majority of employees of the Municipality to fully respond to their duties. Zero tolerance for cases of corruption. We declare that we will take every measure necessary to prevent and eliminate them, wherever and if they exist”, emphasizes the mayor of Athens and refers to the next steps:
We are proceeding with a new Regulation, to a very large extent it is complete, which concerns the operation and controls in restaurants, kiosks and hotels. A dialogue will begin with the aim of having it ready in the near future.
We have submitted a written proposal to the Ministry of the Interior for an amendment to the law, on shop licenses and penalties for offenders.
We are developing at the moment, an information system concerning health care stores – 75-80% is ready – and a special platform in direct collaboration with the Municipal Police and the Revenue Directorate, to improve all control procedures, and of course, to be able to have even greater transparency and speed in all procedures.
“Together, we will move forward to ‘cleanse’ the city of illegal, criminal behavior and actions. Throughout this effort, we will be together with the social and productive agencies and the workers, to complete our work”, the announcement concludes.
