Hariri’s message to the Lebanese from his “retreat”: Our withdrawal is correct and our homes are open

The former Lebanese Prime Minister and head of the “Future Movement” Saad Hariri said that his decision to withdraw and not run in the elections was correct, declaring that he will not abandon his responsibilities.

Hariri added, in a tweet to him on Twitter: “The elections have ended and Lebanon is at a new turning point. The real victory is the entry of new blood into political life. Our decision to withdraw was correct. It shook the structures of the political imbalance, and it does not mean abandoning our responsibilities. We will remain where we carry the dream of Rafik Hariri.” We open our hearts and homes to people. We ask God to protect Lebanon.”

Hariri’s position comes following the end of the Lebanon elections, and the appearance of the preliminary results, which reflected a remarkable loss of “Hezbollah’s allies” in a number of regions, in addition to a breach in the south and Baalbek, which are considered a stronghold of the party.

“Hariri” had decided to “remain in seclusion” and not run in the elections, to the extent that a large number of his supporters boycotted the election.

On the other hand, comprehensive calls from Sunni personalities and Dar Al-Fatwa called for not to boycott. This reflected a discrepancy in the percentage of Sunni participation in the elections, especially in Sunni-majority areas.

The process of counting the votes has been going on in Lebanon, since yesterday evening, Sunday, amid disparities in the unofficial results issued by the competing parties.

Until now, the counting of the Lebanese expatriate votes has been delayed, which has begun to affect some constituencies’ results, especially in favor of the “Lebanese Forces” and civil society, but it is expected that new seats will be resolved at the end of the day.

The Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, is following from his office the process of counting the votes for the parliamentary elections with the Ministers of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi and Justice Henry Khoury.

The prominent sign of the announced election results is the decline of “Hezbollah” in the third southern district, which began to appear strongly in elections in which the voter turnout was 41 percent, according to the Interior Ministry.
