Hard-to-reach veterinary care: Her Serengeti breed cat herd hard hit

The livelihood of a breeder of Serengeti breed cats is hard hit by the accessibility of veterinary care, essential for the health of her 29 cats.

Jo-Ann Lapointe, owner of Stormypoint Serengetis et Oriental, in Lévis, is registered in not two, but in three different veterinary clinics.

For urgent cases, she does not hesitate to travel hundreds of kilometers to get to a veterinary hospital in Montreal.

“Last year, I had a cat who was sick, but I didn’t get an appointment in the region, I had to wait three weeks. I went to Montreal to have him treated, but I finally had to have him euthanized because of his condition,” explains Ms. Lapointe.

For this breeder, the loss of an animal is calculated in terms of several thousand dollars.
