HARD EXCESS
The Nations Dust
(Heavy Metal | Hard Rock)

Label: DIY
Format: (LP)

Release: 11.11.2023

The Tyrolean hard rockers have been around the founding fathers Edi and Patrick Ingruber since 2008 HARD EXCESS their mischief and released their first EP “You Burn” in 2016, which was soon followed by a live album including cover songs by greats like JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH or AC/DC followed. So you can see that the men have a broad spectrum and, in addition to the above-mentioned influences, they also bring their own unique touch to the finally released debut “The Nations Dust”.

The album was created entirely in DIY style and offers a varied and exciting melange of various rock styles and classic heavy metal. It can happen in the song itself that the genre changes in the middle or several genres are merged. This is immediately demonstrated by the 7-minute “Church Is A Dollhouse”, which introns with sacred choirs, starts with heavy riffs, but is briefly reminiscent of early Sabbath in the vocals, immediately swings towards Priest and then drifts back into (glam) rock territory. And so you change direction more often in the song, but somehow it works wonderfully and is immediately easy on the ear. In addition to numerous hooks, cool leads and crisp riffs, this is ensured by singer Kaspar Zanon, who switched to singing in addition to guitar in 2015 when bassist and singer Andreas Egger left the band.

“Eastrock States” is shorter, but no less virtuoso, because it seems like they just want to show what they can do. Fat riffs, dynamic beats, numerous changes in tempo and mood initially provide action before the song mutates into a comfortable but powerful rocker. And even if you can’t attribute the track to any influence per se, some riffs and melodies are reminiscent of various rock icons, but HARD EXCESS manages to combine them wonderfully into their very own style. And you can see the fun of playing in every note. In addition, the album was recorded entirely live, which makes it sound organic, authentic and likeable.

The heavy stomper “Reckless Disease” with its sleazy riffing, the groovy and varied “Mad Desire” and the atmospheric true metal piece “The Riders Of The Apocalypse” also impress, all of which are simply a lot of fun. And with every song you are surprised at how well the Ingruber brothers and their fellow musicians mix classic rock with traditional metal to create their very own sound. With its oriental touch, “Ramses III” manages to keep you going for almost ten minutes with enough ideas and the final title track can also effortlessly maintain the strong level.
