In the night from Friday to Saturday – April 6 – around 1 a.m., a car and scooter collided hard at the intersection of Wibautstraat and Pieter Jelles Troelstralaan in Zaandam.
The driver of an Opel wanted to turn right at the intersection onto Pieter Jelles Troelstalaan. After the traffic light turned green, he looked both left and right to see if there were any cyclists or scooters approaching, because they have the green light at the same time. He never saw the scooter coming and according to several witnesses the scooter was driving fast and without lights.
The car and scooter collided violently, with the driver of the scooter ending up on the sidewalk a few meters away. Ambulance workers provided medical assistance, following which the victim was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
Parts of both the car and the scooter were scattered across the road, on the cycle path and on the sidewalk. The victim’s scooter was taken by someone and placed safely at home. The car was allowed to be parked a little further in a parking space. The owner later contacts his insurer so that his car can be taken to a repair shop.
