Change keeps things exciting, doesn’t it? The makers of ‘The Perfect Picture‘ must have thought so too, because in the ninth season – for the first time in the history of the program – a candidate goes home directly in the first episode. The reason? The judges may save a photographer in a later episode if he has had a bad week.

“It is of course very embarrassing if you are immediately out”

In the eight previous seasons, the first episode was often for practice and getting into it. No matter how low your points were, there was always a second chance. That is not the case in this ninth series and so there is already a lot at stake for the candidates. “It is of course very embarrassing if you are immediately out,” Claes Iversen responds to presenter Tijl Beckand’s announcement.

What is familiar is the first assignment. The candidates must make portraits of each other in pairs. They must commit to each other as the profession they would have liked to pursue in the past. For example, Claes wanted to become a baker and Antoinette Hertsenberg wanted to be a school teacher.

Jury members William Rutten and Cynthia Boll are impressed by the first photos. “They all did something right,” says Cynthia. “And no blurry photos,” adds William. Yet there were three failing grades, for Loiza Lamers, Floris Göbel and Amara Onwuka. Lex Uiting, on the other hand, gets the highest grade.

The second assignment revolves around photographing a still life. The candidates each receive a stuffed bird. They have to build a set around it and then try to take the best possible photo. With the pressure of not wanting to be the first to go home, the candidates do their utmost to fulfill the assignment.

Loiza receives the highest mark in the second assignment, while she received the lowest mark in the first assignment. Lex ultimately has the highest average with a 7.3. Floris has to leave the battle scene after one episode. “I’m really bummed. To be honest, I can’t believe I’m out before it even starts. I’m really going home with a dissatisfied feeling. But we’re not going to stop, we’re going to keep going,” concludes the animal expert.

The Perfect Picture see you every Wednesday at 8:30 PM on RTL 4. Missed the episode? You can watch it again at Videoland.

Get on Your Record: A Cheeky Dive into ‘The Perfect Picture’

Change keeps things exciting, doesn’t it? Well, it seems the producers of ‘The Perfect Picture’ were feeling particularly adventurous, because in the ninth season, they have decided to switch things up. For the first time in the show’s illustrious history, a candidate is heading home directly after the first episode. It’s like getting a surprise divorce on date night – unsettling and slightly scandalous!

“It is of course very embarrassing if you are immediately out,”

There’s a palpable tension in the air! In the past eight seasons, the first episode was more of a warm-up round than an elimination. It was the equivalent of stretching before the marathon, but this season? It’s more like jumping straight into a shark tank with a steak tied around your waist!

As they say, “There’s no better teacher than experience!” Well, that and perhaps humiliation, as contestant Claes Iversen must have thought while responding to host Tijl Beckand’s jarring revelation. The pressure is indeed brewing, and while no one enjoys being the first to leave a party—especially when the snacks have just been put out—this twist takes it to the next level!

The First Assignment: Portraits with a Twist

And what’s the first assignment, you ask? Ah, the classic art of portraiture! The participants are tasked with capturing portraits of each other while pretending to be their childhood dream professions. You’ve got Claes dreaming of being a baker—a sweet turn of events, but is there enough “flour power” in his photos? And Antoinette Hertsenberg fancied herself as a school teacher—hopefully, she won’t lecture her fellow contestants too harshly!

The judges, William Rutten and Cynthia Boll, seem to be in high spirits, impressed by the results. William even celebrated the fact there were “no blurry photos.” Which is quite the endorsement—mind you, this is photography we’re discussing, not a drunken night out!

However, the reality of competition hits hard with three contestants receiving failing grades. Meanwhile, Lex Uiting emerges victorious with the highest grade. If only success could be as simple as showing up with a digital camera and some enthusiasm!

The Second Assignment: Still Life Under Pressure

The second task involves capturing the quintessential still life—complete with a stuffed bird and an avalanche of creative pressure! Who knew a plush toy could bring out such fierce competition? Imagine cursing at a stuffed bird while trying to make it look artsy—what a hoot!

In a nail-biting twist, Loiza rises from receiving the lowest score in the first round to claiming the top spot in this assignment. There’s nothing quite like the sweet taste of redemption, is there? Lex, on the other hand, holds the highest average with a score of 7.3, which, for those of you keeping track, is not quite a gold star but far from a detour to disaster!

And Then, There Was One

Unfortunately, not everyone can bask in the glory, as Floris Göbel must pack his bags and head out early into the night. “I’m really bummed,” he states, showing real emotion and a hint of disbelief. “To be honest, I can’t believe I’m out before it even starts!” It’s like going on an epic adventure, only to get sent home because you didn’t manage to find your pants!

But as every seasoned contestant knows, the show must go on. “But we’re not going to stop. We’re going to keep going!” This optimistic mantra could become the season’s rallying cry—or at least a catchy hashtag on social media.

Make sure to catch ‘The Perfect Picture’, airing every Wednesday at 8:30 PM on RTL 4. And if you miss it, no worries! You can binge-watch all the drama on Videoland, because really, who doesn’t love a good photo fail?

Until next time, keep your cameras ready and your spirits high – because in this competition, even a picture can tell a thousand embarrassing stories!
