České Budějovice April 8, 2024 (PROTEXT) – Prepare for the start, be careful… The new ČEZ RunTour season will start already on Saturday, April 13. The popular running series will enter its 13th year as it is traditionally in České Budějovice, where a number of interesting novelties are prepared for runners in the spirit of #JERADOSTBĚŽET. Despite the increased capacity, this year’s first race is sold out – there will be 1,800 runners at the start.

One series, eight beautiful cities and 48 races full of joy and smiles. This year’s season of the CEZ RunTour family running series will be extremely busy! For the first time, runners will line up in České Budějovice, where, like in seven other cities, races of three, five and ten kilometers await them. There will also be children’s Lupilu runs of 500 and 1000 meters, as well as the popular ČEZ relay races (2×5 km and 4×2.5 km).

“This year’s novelty is the Run for School project, with which we want to support the physical activity of young people and attract high school students to the start. They have the opportunity to assemble a relay team with which they will represent their school. The best team of each region will receive a reward of 30,000 crowns for their school, which is donated by the LIDL project partner,” says Marek Pirzkall, director of the series from the organizing agency VML.

From České Budějovice, the series will move to Kopřivnice (April 27), Ústí nad Labem (May 25) and Pilsen (June 22), where runners will return following a break of several years and where the first ever ČEZ RunTour race took place in 2011. Subsequently, they will run in Olomouc (July 22), Brno (September 14), Prague (October 5) and Pardubice (October 19).

In the South Bohemian metropolis, runners can look forward to a fast and at the same time attractive track, which is from the historic Přemysl Otakar II Square. leads through the Háječek park to the cycle path to the Vltava. They will then run along its other bank through the Dlouhá louka park to return to the narrow streets in the historic center of the city via Sokolský ostrov. This year, for the first time, all tracks will be certified by the Czech Athletics Federation, which will give the personal records of all participants even more value.

A season full of news

However, this is not the only novelty of this season! What else can CEZ RunTour participants look forward to? For a more responsible approach to ecology: only returnable cups will be available and for sorting Rajec plastic bottles, participants will receive a discount on a great meal from the LIDL menu. Starter packs will no longer be in bags, but will be replaced by more permanent backpacks.

The busy background promises a lot of experiences. In addition to free showers and massages, runners will find new partners here that are worth visiting. One of them is the Czech brand Iontmax, which produces sports food supplements and offers a unique option: it will provide sodium loss measurements at all races, based on which the brand’s experts will advise runners on a suitable hydration strategy tailored to them.

This year’s overall winners will be decided by the Intersport RunTour ranking challenge, in which runners will collect points for placing in individual races. There are also two novelties associated with this competition: the seven best results will be included in the overall standings, so runners can afford to miss a race. “We have a special prize for the best competitors this year: thanks to the cooperation with the PRIM watch brand, a limited edition watch with their name will be waiting for them. These watches will also be available for purchase, and part of the proceeds will go to the Leontinka Foundation,” says Marek.

He will run to help the children

The close connection with the Leontinka foundation will also apply this season. This time too, 50 crowns from each entry fee will go to the account of this charitable organization that helps blind people.

However, runners can also help in another way, through the mobile application EPP – Help by moving, in which users earn points for their physical activities. These points will then be allocated following each race to a project that was established specifically as part of the partnership between ČEZ and the RunTour series. The ČEZ Foundation will then send real funds to the selected project for these points.

In České Budějovice, they will run to the aid of the Kaňka Center, which will pay for a psycho-rehabilitation stay for families of the youngest children with disabilities with the funds obtained. An interesting fact is that the cross-country skiing representative Barbora Havlíčková will then hand over the check.
