“Today, with the first Sunday of July 2024, the #domenicalmuseo initiative turns 10. Established with decree no. 94 of 27 June 2014, it provides free entry to museums, archaeological parks and all state cultural sites. It is a happy intuition that in recent years has become an unmissable event much appreciated by Italian citizens and tourists who come here from all over the world. To the 12 free days originally planned, I strongly wanted to add three more iconic dates in Italian history: 25 April, 2 June and 4 November. In these 15 free days, like the one that has just ended – says the Minister of
Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano commenting on the first available data relating to the #domenicalmuseo in July – many hundreds of thousands of visitors decided to spend a few hours immersed in the beauty and art of the nation’s cultural heritage”. These are, the minister continues, “numbers that confirm the extraordinary success of Italian museums, as demonstrated by the admission data we presented this week which recorded, for 2023, the figure of 57,730,502 visitors, never recorded in historical series. Italian museums have an immense historical and identity value, to this we are adding the quality of services including the new app, an innovative and modern tool for accessing museum facilities which represents a further step towards modernization and enhancement in line with what is provided for by art. 9 of the Constitution”.
