The studios are now being taken over by film producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (“Love Actually”) and Oscar winner Zimmer (“The Lion King”) and his business partner Steven Kofsky, the British broadcaster announced.

The BBC had bought the premises – originally built as a roller skating rink – in 1933. Since then, many artists have worked there. Hans Zimmer first worked in the London studios 45 years ago.

The studios gave him courage

Still remembering the pull and the desire to touch the walls in hopes of connecting with the artists and their extraordinary music, Zimmer said: “It was a place that musicians like me who were struggling stopped me from giving up.”

According to initial plans, the studios are to be preserved and renovated. In addition, a non-profit educational institution is to be created. The purchase price was not mentioned. The BBC announced some time ago that it would be moving its music studios and music groups to a new building in east London, due to open in 2025.

Among other things, Zimmer was nominated twelve times for an Oscar, he received his first nomination in 1989 for his music to “Rain Man”. The drama starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise was his Hollywood breakthrough. His soundtracks for “The Lion King” (1995) and “Dune” (2022) were each crowned with an Oscar. Zimmer lives in California and is the father of four children from two marriages that have since ended.
