Historic medal: Hanne Desmet offers Belgium its first medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics
Hanne Desmet won the bronze medal in the women’s 1000m shorttrack on Friday at the Beijing Olympics. It thus offers Belgium a 7th medal at the Winter Games and the first in these 2022 Olympics. This is the first short-track medal for Belgium at the Olympic Games.
The Antwerp woman, vice-world champion in the distance, finished 3rd in the A final behind Suzanne Schulting, who retains her title, and the South Korean Minjeong Choi. It was a second Olympic final for Hanne Desmet, 25, who placed 5th in the 500m on Monday.
