In view of the stalled commercial collective bargaining negotiations, the GPA union is planning temporary strikes and “various small actions” on Wednesday and Thursday. The sixth round of negotiations for a new collective trade agreement will start on Friday afternoon. The union did not accept the employers’ offer of an 8 percent increase in salaries without social graduation in the fifth round of collective bargaining.
The Handels-KV is about the salaries of 430,000 employees and apprentices. It is the largest industry collective agreement in Austria. The GPA is insisting on a salary increase of 9.4 percent. Rolling inflation from October 2022 to September 2023 was 9.2 percent. If there is no agreement between employer and employee representatives in the next few days, the federal trade division of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKÖ) wants to make a recommendation for “a sustainable salary increase” to the companies.
