Handball team plays six friendly games in Portugal – news

Six games mark the pre-competitive stage of the National Men’s Handball Team, in the city of Porto, in Portugal, with a view to participating in the African Championship, taking place in Cairo, Egypt, from the 17th to the 27th of January.

In preparation, the Angolan team faces FC Porto, ABC de Braga, Águas Santas, Póvoa Andebol Clube, and two more games with the Cape Verde National Team, the African runner-up.

According to coach Filipe Cruz, who spoke to the press at the end of the flag ceremony, these are opponents who will help the group to correct the positioning of the athletes, as Portugal has raised its competitive level.

He added that he hopes that the team will perform at the required levels in Africa, with a view to improving the eighth place obtained in the last continental competition in 2022, also in Cairo.

Regarding group D, the coach considers it to be an easy series, but all attention is focused on the initial pairing.

In his opinion, the members Kenya and Nigeria are opponents below the level of Angola, however they have to redouble their efforts to overcome the experienced Tunisia, to secure first place in the group and thus avoid Egypt in the next phase.
