Hanadi Mostefa, Ancré boss: “A media that resembles us”

At the head of Ancré, with her two partners Didier Piquionne and Flora Dibotti, Hanadi Mostefa, a journalist with Melty and HypeBeast, imagines a magazine “here, now and for the future”.

Last June, your text “What does “being beautiful for a stranger” mean exactly? » caused a lot of noise. What inspired this article?
Hanadi Mostefa: This is a phrase that I have often heard. And when you hear something that bothers you in the street, that’s exactly what you’re talking about. I think that talking about all these underrepresented subjects necessarily means addressing – and including – people from the community in question in the dialogue. This is the reason for my media.

On your media, you give voice to the younger generation as much as to millennials and Gen X.
This is used to understand people’s history. We are a media where part of the readership comes from immigration. And we all need to understand how our parents’ behavior impacts our personalities. The older generation allows us to understand each other, but also to better understand different social issues.

You created Ancré Magazine a little over two years ago. What was your journey?
When I arrived in Paris (I’m from Laval), I took the Efap. Then, I went to Melty (a rather distressing click tap, editor’s note), then HypeBeast France as editor-in-chief. It opened the doors to high-fashion for me and allowed me to sharpen my outlook. After Covid, the idea came to create a women’s media that resembles me, but above all resembles all those women to whom we don’t talk about their hair, the artists they love, but above all those to whom we does not speak intelligibly and intelligently.

You are also a stylist. What is your relationship with clothing?
What interests me is the reflection around clothing, its history and its relationship to the public. I think of Balenciaga trash bags: you might think it’s stupid, but it’s like Marcel Duchamp.

How do you construct your subjects?
My culture is built on what people say – in life, and online. I want to shine a light on people like me. There is also artistic direction, where you have to work with the right people, those who will enrich your subject without diluting it.

The following ?
Continue to structure ourselves and bring even more brands with us for our editorials – because we’re tired of influencing! So: find the balance in this worldwide web to remain relevant and always answer the questions that our readers ask themselves.
