(Seoul = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Joo-hwan = Justice Minister candidate Han Dong-hoon said on the 23rd that he was “concerned” regarding the arbitration proposal of National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok (completely deprived of the prosecution’s investigative power).
A candidate’s side issued a statement on the same day and pointed out, “With the 2020 revision, many side effects and loopholes have been revealed in protecting the common people and responding to corruption even in the current system.”
“If additional legislation is urgently enacted without a thorough analysis and social consensus on it, the problems will worsen severely,” he said.
Chairman Park presented to the opposition and opposition parties a proposal for an arbitration plan that would include the separation of the prosecution’s direct investigation and prosecution powers, and the formation of a special judicial reform committee to discuss the establishment of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency.
The opposition and opposition parties agreed to accept the arbitration bill and to deal with the bill of scrutiny and closure at the plenary session at the end of this month.
