Hammer/Greens: Climate protection must not fall victim to the power-political games of a disoriented SPÖ

Colleague Leichtfried must come to his senses. Tackling the climate crisis must be a bipartisan concern

Vienna (OTS) “I don’t have the slightest understanding when the energy transition falls victim to the power-political games of a disoriented SPÖ. When colleague Leichtfried criticizes the length of the negotiations and at the same time announces that he will not agree anyway, that is the ultimate chutzpah. The energy transition and climate protection should be a non-partisan concern and not just in the interest of the government. Instead of distracting with cheap attacks on the club chairwoman of the Greens, Jörg Leichtfried should come to his senses and return to the negotiating table,” says Lukas Hammer, energy spokesman for the Greens, on today’s broadcast by Jörg Leichtfried.

“It is now up to the SPÖ that we can pass both the Energy Efficiency Act and the Renewable Heat Act at the National Council meeting in ten days. After many rounds of negotiations with the SPÖ, we have come to terms with both laws and have presented compromise proposals that are particularly regarding social balance. After years of ‘acting as if’, colleague Leichtfried might finally prove that the SPÖ has learned something new when it comes to climate protection. Demanding climate protection from the opposition bank and then blocking it is simply not possible. The fight once morest the climate crisis is above all an urgent social issue and I call on the SPÖ to abandon its destructive course,” appealed Hammer.
