“Hamilton and Mercedes’ Latest Updates: Monte Carlo GP Practice Recap”

2023-05-26 18:57:24

During the second free practice session on the streets of Monte Carlo, Lewis Hamilton got on the radio. The Mercedes star wanted to know where he lost the most time to the fastest, i.e. Max Verstappen.

The answer: especially in the middle part of the slope and a total of half a second. Hamilton moaned: “Damn, the car doesn’t give much more.”

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion and his stable mate George Russell warned on Thursday: “We have all these improvements here, but the fans shouldn’t expect miracles from us.”

After two hours of training on the narrow Circuit de Monaco, the 103-time GP winner Hamilton deepened: “Basically, I was able to really enjoy driving today. A big thank you to everyone at the race car factory. I know how difficult it is to design and build such an extensive update.”

«Of course Monaco is not the best place to test such improvements, Barcelona is much more suitable for that. The car felt good even though I was hoping to be a little closer to the front. The improvement is clearly noticeable, now we have to find ways and means to make more of it.”

«In the first training session I was still thinking – hey, we’re doing well! But this year we are often faster in the first practice than in the second. We’re about half a second behind, if we do everything right on Saturday we can maybe reduce that to three tenths of a second. But the others will also improve tomorrow, so it’s very difficult to say where we’ll end up.”
