Artist Hamid Al Shaeri announced the death of 800 of his relatives.
Al-Shaeri explained today, through his personal Facebook account, that this huge number of victims belonging to his tribe died in Libya due to Hurricane Daniel, which claimed the lives of thousands during the past days.
He said: “We belong to God and to Him we shall return. We condole ourselves, we condole the people of Derna, and we condole the Al-Sha’eri tribe for the death of more than 800 people from the tribe in Derna. We consider them martyrs before God.”
Many of the famous star’s fans reacted to his tragic post, expressing their deepest condolences and sincere sympathy for this great loss, and calling for mercy and forgiveness for the victims.
It is noteworthy that Hamid Al-Shaeri is a singer and composer, born in 1961. He was born to a Libyan father and an Egyptian mother, and holds both Egyptian and Libyan nationalities.
He began his artistic journey as an organ player in the Libyan Radio Band during the 1970s. He used to hold concerts in Benghazi, and participated in establishing a singing group under the name “Sons of Africa.”
He arranged music for most of the albums in the 1980s, and composed many famous songs, most notably: the song “The Road,” sung by the artist Mohamed Mounir.
He participated in some cinematic works, including: the film “Nut Peel”, which was directed by Khairy Bishara, and brought together a large number of artists, the most important of whom are: Mahmoud Yassin, Hussein Fahmy, Abla Kamel, Mohamed Henedy, Majed Al-Masry, and Alaa Wali El-Din.
