(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Jinsong Oh = A local company that took over McDonald’s, an American fast food chain that withdrew from Russia, unveiled a new corporate logo, the British daily The Guardian reported on the 10th (local time).

There are reactions that even if it is different from the familiar logo that symbolizes the letter M, it is too different from the existing two yellow arches connected side by side.

According to reports, a Russian company that took over 1,000 local McDonald’s stores unveiled a new corporate logo ahead of reopening on the 12th.

The logo looks like two bars leaning on a circle at an angle. The Guardian commented that the logo looks like the letter M made from one hamburger and two french fries.

The name of the new corporate brand has not yet been announced.

However, in the McDonald’s application in Russia, McDonald’s has been changed to ‘My Burger’. Russia’s RIA news agency reported that ‘My Burger’ was a temporary name created because McDonald’s could not use the brand name.

Earlier, McDonald’s headquarters in the United States closed its stores in Russia on March 14, saying that normal business operations in Russia were impossible due to the Ukraine war. Last month, it announced its withdrawal from the Russian market and the sale of its assets in Russia.

The Russian company that acquired McDonald’s is expected to open a new hamburger store on the 12th in Moscow’s Pushkin Square, where McDonald’s opened its first branch in Russia in January 1990. This day is also known as ‘Russia Day’, which commemorates the founding of the Russian Federation.

McDonald’s entry into Russia 32 years ago was a big event that was regarded as a symbol of Russia’s openness and market economy.

There are no good reviews about the McDonald’s logo that has changed out of the way in Russia.

At the time, Soviet citizens flocked to the first McDonald's that opened in Moscow in January 1990.

Some critics said the new logo resembles that of a Marriott hotel operated in Russia.

One netizen sarcastically said on his social media (SNS) account that the logo “looks like a mixture of the Marriott Hotel logo and the Bangladesh flag.”
