Six people were injured after falling from a balcony in Hamburg. The fire department said one person was seriously injured, two were moderately injured and three were slightly injured. It was unclear early Thursday morning whether the serious injuries were life-threatening as previously reported.

The incident in the Langenhorn area happened at around 9.30pm on Wednesday. How this happens remains completely unclear.

The balcony is on the third floor of a 60’s or 70’s apartment building. Instead of being fully supported downward, it folds forward 90 degrees. It is still hanging from the building’s exterior wall, according to the fire department. It was decided not to dismantle it at night, but only during the day on Thursday or in the coming days.

The six people on the balcony, five men and one woman, all fell from a height of about nine meters. They were taken to hospital. Firefighters said an apartment on one side of the affected house had been evacuated. Structural engineers must now examine how to proceed. The fire brigade was on scene together with 60 emergency services personnel as well as rescue services and technical rescue services (THW).
