THE Hamas GROUP says it will continue to negotiate through mediators until it reaches a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They ensure that the terms fought with the Israeli side are not final.

In this way, Hamas ensures that this good faith will bear sweet fruit if the Israeli side has a similar attitude. However, Hamas believes that Israel is trying to avoid the negotiations initiated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States. Israel sets high and non-negotiable conditions.

“The (Hamas) movement will continue to negotiate through our fraternal mediators to reach an agreement that meets the demands and interests of our people,” said a Hamas statement.

This statement came following media reports which stated that negotiations in Cairo had ended without a breakthrough. On Tuesday (6/3) evening, Egypt’s state-run Al-Qahera News TV quoted a top Egyptian source as saying indirect talks between Hamas and Israel regarding a ceasefire agreement in Gaza were still ongoing, but had reached an impasse.

“Talks are still ongoing to reach a ceasefire in Gaza before the fasting month of Ramadan,” the Egyptian source said.

He added that further discussions would be held on Wednesday (7/3). Meanwhile Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, will start next week.

All parties hope that negotiations can be reached soon so that the holy month is free from bloodshed. A new round of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza began in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday (3/3), with the participation of delegations from Egypt, Qatar, the United States and Hamas.

According to Israeli media, the mediator attempted to bridge differences between Israel and Hamas regarding the details of Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, as well as the prisoners to be released from both sides.

Hamas is believed to be holding more than 130 Israelis hostage since its attack on October 7. Israel has launched a deadly offensive in the Gaza Strip since October 7, killing more than 30,600 people and injuring more than 72 thousand others amid mass destruction and shortages of basic goods.

Israel’s war has displaced 85% of Gaza’s population amid shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim decree in January ordered Tel Aviv to halt genocidal acts and take action to ensure that humanitarian aid is provided to civilians in Gaza. (Z-8)
