Hamas Planned Attack on Israeli Embassy in Sweden: Mossad Intelligence

Israel said on Saturday that Hamas planned to attack the Israeli embassy in Sweden, indicating that this comes within the framework of an expansion of the movement’s operations in Europe, where the authorities announced the arrest of a number of suspects last month.

In a follow-up statement to the arrests announced by the Danish, German and Swedish authorities, the Israeli intelligence service Mossad mentioned the name of a person alleged to be a member of the Hamas network in Sweden without specifying whether he was also being detained.

There has been no comment yet from Hamas, which said earlier that it was focusing its attacks on Israel, the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which are the territories on which the Palestinians seek to establish their state.

The Foreign Ministry in Stockholm declined to comment on the embassy’s security measures, but stated that Sweden “takes seriously its obligations to protect foreign missions under the Vienna Convention.”

The Mossad stated in the statement that a multinational investigation received information that the Hamas network had received orders from a command post affiliated with the movement in Lebanon and that it “intends to attack the Israeli embassy in Sweden, purchase gliders, and activate members of criminal groups in Europe.”

Hamas used gliders in its surprise attack on Israel on October 7, which led to the outbreak of war in Gaza.
