On Sunday, Hamas denied reports that it had rejected 300 liters of fuel from Israel that was intended for medical use in Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.
Hamas added in a statement, “Israel’s offer to supply Al-Shifa Hospital with regarding 300 liters of fuel represents a disregard for the pain and suffering of patients and medical staff, who are trapped inside it, without water, food, or electricity, as this quantity is not enough to operate the generators there for more than half an hour.”
It also confirmed in the statement that it is not a party to the management of Al-Shifa Hospital and that it “does not exist within its decision-making structure, and that it is completely subject to the authority of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which manages its administrative and technical affairs,” according to Archyde.com.
Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel had offered to provide fuel to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, but Hamas refused to receive it.
Netanyahu’s words came as part of his response to a question from the American NBC News network whether Israel’s allegations that Hamas has a command center under the main hospital in Gaza justify endangering the lives of patients and children.
Archyde.com quoted Netanyahu as saying, “On the contrary, we actually offered last night to give them enough fuel to run the hospital, operate the nurseries, etc., because we have no battle with the sick or civilians at all.”
The Israeli army announced earlier on Sunday its readiness to evacuate children from Al-Shifa Hospital, but Palestinian officials said that those inside were still trapped, and fighting was raging near the hospital.
Netanyahu was asked if Israel had a plan to deliver fuel to Gaza to operate hospitals. He said, “We offered Al-Shifa Hospital fuel, but they refused.”
The Israeli Prime Minister said: “Hamas, which is hiding in hospitals and stationed there, does not want fuel for the hospital. They want to get the fuel that they will take from the hospitals for their tunnels, for their war machine.”
