The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said the strikes were “in response to the occupiers’ (Israeli) killings and aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said about 30 shells had been fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, adding that it responded by shelling the side from which they were fired.
It comes after Hamas-ruled Gaza’s Health Ministry announced earlier Monday that the death toll in the enclave had surpassed 10,000, nearly a month after the start of the war sparked by the Islamist group’s unprecedented attack on Israel.
Israeli officials say more than 1,400 people have been killed in Israel since the Oct. 7 attack in which Hamas took more than 240 hostages. people, mostly civilians.
Hamas, which is an ally of the Iranian-backed Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, has a number of fighters in southern Lebanon and has previously claimed to launch attacks against Israel from there.
Since the October 7 attack, tensions have been high along the border between Israel and Lebanon, where there is technically still a war, with Hezbollah and Israel regularly exchanging fire.
At least 81 people, including 59 Hezbollah fighters, have been killed in cross-border clashes on the Lebanese side since the Hamas attack, according to the AFP news agency.
Six soldiers and two civilians were killed on the Israeli side.
