According to the Islamist Hamas Ministry of Health, twelve people were killed in the shelling of a clinic in the northern Gaza Strip. The authority’s spokesman, Ashraf al-Kudra, said on Monday that several patients and their companions were among the victims. Dozens more were injured. The ministry blamed Israel for the attack on the Indonesian hospital in the northern coastal area.

The Israeli military did not yet comment when asked. Al-Kudra’s information cannot yet be independently verified.

Eyewitnesses reported Israeli tanks stationed not far from the hospital. According to Al-Kudra, there are still 200 employees in the clinic as well as thousands of displaced people. He did not give an exact number. “We asked the World Health Organization to evacuate the patients,” Al-Kudra said.

Israel accuses the terrorist organization Hamas of using hospitals in the Gaza Strip for military purposes. According to the army, the Indonesian hospital is also said to be surrounded by “terrorist infrastructure”. The clinic was built on a Hamas tunnel system. This information might not initially be verified independently. However, the allegations fueled concerns regarding a possible deployment in the hospital complex.
