According to the Hamas authorities, the number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip has risen to more than 12,300 since the war began six weeks ago. Around 30,000 people were injured, the government press office in Gaza said on Saturday evening. There are more than 5,000 children and young people among the dead. There are also thousands of missing people. The numbers cannot currently be independently verified.

According to the information, this is by far the highest number of Palestinians killed during a war in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The authority in the Gaza Strip recently stopped publishing a daily update on the number of victims. Observers cited the Israeli bombings, the increasing collapse of the healthcare system and the actions of Israeli troops in the north of the sealed-off coastal strip as reasons. The authorities recently spoke of around 11,500 deaths.

The war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel’s history, carried out by terrorists from the Islamist Hamas and other extremist Palestinian organizations on October 7th in Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip. On the Israeli side, more than 1,200 people were killed in the following days, including many women, children and young people.
