A headset to control your dreams? We think we’re dreaming! And yet, this is what the American start-up Prophetic intends to market in the spring of 2025. Its device, called Halo, consists of a beige-colored ring that is placed around the user’s skull. The goal ? Induce him to have a lucid dream, i.e. a dream that he will be aware of having and that he will perhaps even be able to partially control. According to a meta-analysis dating from 2016, 55% of adults have at least one dream of this type in their life and 23% have it at least once a month.
With Halo, users will be able to do one every night if they want! But what is the point of artificially reaching this state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep? Lucid dreams reduce stress and anxiety, stimulate creativity and improve concentration. Better yet, according to one study mentioned by the co-founders of Prophetic to the media Vicethese dreams might reduce the occurrence of nightmares associated with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Acting on dreams via transcranial ultrasound stimulation
Although techniques already exist to induce lucid dreams, they are only marginally effective. Prophetic hopes to obtain satisfactory results thanks to Halo. “The Halo’s closed-loop neurostimulation system artificially recreates the neuronal activation sequences of natural lucid dreams on demand” when the user is in REM sleep, explains the young company on its website. To do this, the device uses the non-invasive technique of transcranial ultrasound stimulation which interacts with neuronal activity.
Prophetic is collaborating with the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior in the Netherlands, which will soon provide it with brain data from lucid dreamers from functional magnetic resonance imaging observations to feed the Halo algorithm. The innovation, now available for pre-order, is likely to attract a lot of attention when it comes to market. But exploring one’s consciousness cannot be done at low cost… The device might cost between 1,500 and 2,000 dollars.
