343 Industries, the developer of the Halo series, has lost at least 95 people due to Microsoft’s recent layoffs, according to Bloomberg. The studio is switching from its proprietary Slipspace engine to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, using for future games.
Bloomberg notes that the studio’s fighting game, code-named Tatanka, in partnership with Certain Affinity, will be developed on Unreal Engine, which future Halo games “will also explore using” Unreal Engine.
If true, the change marks yet another major game developer moving to Unreal Engine, with The Witcher and Cyberpunk developer CD Projekt Red announcing a “multi-year strategic partnership” with Epic Games in March. “to use Unreal Engine; in November 2022, Epic stated that more than half of all announced next-generation games will be made with Unreal Engine.
