The government held a ceremony to celebrate Liberation Day in the absence of independence movement groups such as the Liberation Association, the Speaker of Parliament, and opposition leaders.

However, it is worth noting that President Yoon Seok-yeol did not mention past historical issues and South Korea-Japan relations in his congratulatory message.

Even the Japanese media showed an unusual reaction.

This is a report by reporter Hong Yi-pyo.

Ceremony to celebrate the 79th Day of Liberation.

People’s Power party leaders and MPs attended, but the opposition leader did not.

Only Heo Enya, leader of the New Reform Party, retained her seat.

In his congratulatory message, President Yoon Seok-yeol said, “Liberation cannot be completed as long as the separatist system continues to exist,” and proposed a new unification strategy called the “August 15 Doctrine.”

“Only on the day when a free, democratic and unified country is established can complete liberation be achieved.”

He mentioned the word “freedom” 50 times and said: “Freedom must spread to the suffering northern lands.”

“Japan” disappeared from the 24-minute congratulatory message.

It only mentioned “liberation after Japan’s demise” and “per capita income surpassed Japan for the first time” three times, and did not mention past history or South Korea-Japan relations.

As the conflict surrounding Kim Hyung-seok’s appointment as director of the Independence Hall intensified, “fake news” groups criticized the opposition party as “anti-unification forces.”

“They just want to divide people through incitement and fabrication and profit from it.”

The Liberation Day celebrations are divided into two parts.

The ruling party blamed the opposition, but even the only opposition party in attendance held the president responsible.

“I think it’s very inappropriate to make it look like the country is divided.”

[허은아/개혁신당 대표]

“I would like to say that President Yoon Seok-yeol bears the main responsibility for this split…”

Regarding Japan’s disappearance from the congratulatory message, the President’s Office explained that it was “an expression of confidence that Japan has become an equal”, but sharp criticism continued, saying it was an “indulgence that no longer needs an apology” and ” A pro-Japanese gene that cannot be hidden.

Even the ruling party said, “On Liberation Day, we should condemn Japan and urge Japan to reflect, but this is indeed strange and bizarre.”
