As many as half a million British Railways workers have gone on a three – day national strike demanding a pay rise. This will be the largest rail strike in Britain since 1989, according to the RMT, a railway workers’ organization. The strike will take place on the 21st, 23rd and 25th of this month. RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said workers were forced to go on strike amid rising prices.
In the UK, inflation is currently nine per cent. This is the highest rate in 40 years. Employees of London’s underground train network ‘Tube’ have announced a 21- to 24-hour strike. ‘Tube’ workers went on strike yesterday demanding a pay rise.
The British aviation sector is also facing a major crisis. Companies laid off employees en masse as service was disrupted during the epidemic. At present, the airlines are in a dilemma of having to cut back on services as they do not have enough staff to run the service.
