The Special Committee (Pansus) for the 2024 Hajj Questionnaire asked the President-elect for the 2024-2029 period, Prabowo Subianto, to recruit a more competent Minister of Religion (Menag) than Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. This was one of the recommendations of the Haj special committee which was read out at the 8th Plenary Meeting of Session I of the 2024-2025 Session Year.

“The Special Committee hopes that the next government will fill the position of Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia with a figure who is considered more capable and competent in coordinating, organizing and managing the implementation of the Hajj pilgrimage,” said Chairman of the 2024 Hajj Inquiry Special Committee Nusron Wahid in the DPR Plenary Meeting Room, Parliament Complex, Senayan , Jakarta, today.

The special committee actually found a number of problems. Starting from the distribution of Hajj quotas, to Hajj services to pilgrims which are far from standard. The special committee also encouraged strengthening the government’s internal supervisors in supervising the Hajj. Especially at the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Religion and BPKP.

If follow-up action is needed, said Nusron, the BPK and police must act. Including the Prosecutor’s Office and the Corruption Eradication Committee.

“When follow-up is needed, it can involve external supervisors such as the Financial Audit Agency (BPK) and law enforcement officials, the Police, Prosecutor’s Office and Corruption Eradication Committee,” said Nusron.

The special committee also pushed for Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimage and Law Number 34 of 2014 concerning Hajj Financial Management. This is by considering the current conditions that occur in the regulations and models for implementing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

The special committee also recommended a more open system in the special Hajj pilgrimage and the allocation of additional quotas. “Every decision taken must be based on clear regulations and be openly informed to the public,” explained Nusron.

The special committee also requested that in organizing the upcoming Hajj, the state’s role in the control function needs to be strengthened and optimized.

“The special committee recommends that in future implementation the role of the state in the control function over the implementation of the special Hajj pilgrimage should be further strengthened and optimized,” explained Nusron. (P-2)
