Vice President of the Hungarian Parliament visits – crop insurance at the center of the discussion
Vienna (OTS) – István Jakab, Vice President of the Hungarian Parliament and at the same time President of the Association of Farmers’ Cooperatives of Hungary, paid a working visit to the Austrian Hagelversicherung with a high-ranking delegation in Vienna yesterday. As a specialist agricultural insurer, Österreichische Hagelversicherung also operates successfully on the Hungarian market with its own branch, Agrár Biztosító.
The exchange focused on the crop insurance systems of both countries as a response to climate change and insurance models for the future. Insurance models based on private-public partnerships play a central role. Hungary also has a comprehensive risk management system with a premium subsidy of up to 70 percent for farmers. The advantage of such support: The farmer has a legal right to compensation and is not reduced to a supplicant in the event of damage. He also has the guarantee that damages will be assessed quickly and objectively. Kurt Weinberger, CEO of Austrian Hagelversicherung: “Agriculture is the most sensitive to increasing extreme weather events. We must therefore make it clearer to society that the job that farmers do will become increasingly risky and difficult in the future due to climate change. Therefore, this professional group cannot be valued, protected and secured enough. Only farmers produce what we need every day, namely food of the highest quality and quality. And all of this under increasingly tough production conditions. They are therefore the backbone of every state. In order to guarantee the supply of the population, insurance systems based on private-public partnerships are essential. Internationally, the path is clearly moving towards even more comprehensive risk management. Austrian hail insurance has the most comprehensive product range as well as the fastest and most modern damage assessment in Europe.”
