2023-11-12 04:33:23

Since she entered the world of art, actress Haifa Hussein has followed the policy of “quality is more important than quantity,” as she chooses her artistic works carefully and meticulously. She was distinguished by embodying many roles that formed a milestone in the dramatic scene, and she stood before the giants of Gulf art. Until she gained the experience and knowledge that qualifies her to put her name on the list of the most prominent Gulf stars. In her interview with “Zahrat Al Khaleej”, Haifa Hussein reveals the details of her new dramatic works, which she is competing in the “Ramadan Marathon 2024”, and talks regarding the development that Emirati drama has reached, her opinion on digital platforms, and the reasons for her moving away from cinema… Details in the following interview :

First of all, you will be watching your fans next Ramadan with the Emirati-Gulf series “Trunks”… What regarding its details, and your role in it?

The work was written by Jamal Al-Saqr, directed by Tamer Ishaq, and filmed in Ras Al Khaimah. The social drama series has a traditional character, and the dramatic plot is rich in events, and a group of drama stars participate in it, including: Habib Ghuloum, Ibrahim Al-Hasawi, Khalil Al-Rumaithi, and Shaima Sabt. The work reviews many societal issues in the context of the struggle between good and evil, and in it I play the role of a doctor, who learned how to treat people using folk and ancient medicines, and her only concern is to help people and treat them from their diseases, in light of the difficult circumstances in which they live.

“Trunks” was supposed to be shown in Ramadan 2023, but it was postponed to Ramadan 2024. Was its postponement in your interest, especially since you participated in the series “Tawk Al-Harir”, which was shown last Ramadan?

By nature, I do not like to burn myself artistically, and I try to balance my appearance during the different dramatic seasons, and not just in Ramadan. Since I entered the world of acting, I have followed the policy of “quality is more important than quantity.” It is enough for me to appear in one work a year that achieves the desired success and popularity, and my role in it leaves an imprint on the viewer. Despite the difficulty I experienced due to filming “The Silk Tawq” and “Trunks” at the same time, between Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, to the point that I slept only 3 hours a day, so that I might finish filming my role in the two works, the postponement of the series Certainly, he came for my benefit, because he showed me “The Silk Collar,” and he came for the benefit of the work, due to the momentum of Gulf and Arab works that were shown last Ramadan, which caused a state of confusion among viewers.

Different ideas

“Silk Collar”… How did you receive the audience’s reactions to it, especially since it is a contemporary Emirati dramatic work that witnessed the return of the distinguished Emirati actress Samira Ahmed?

The reactions were positive and beautiful, and I also liked the different dramatic mood of the work, and the character that I embodied; As a mother of two children, she struggles with life and difficult circumstances without her husband, and tries throughout the events to challenge the traumas that she went through. This role was one of the most prominent roles that I performed in my career, as well as the return of actress Samira Ahmed to acting following an absence of many years in “The Silk Collar.” It was a nice surprise for the work team, especially since she is a capable actress, and her participation enriches any artistic work.

How do you see the development that Emirati drama has reached?

In recent years, Emirati drama has witnessed great development in terms of content and an increase in the number of productions, but as the wife of the artist Habib Ghuloum – who entered the field of production in 2015, and I have been following the progress of work with him almost constantly – I find that the Emirati producer needs greater confidence from… Before television channels, and setting larger budgets to implement huge, high-quality dramatic works.

What do you think of what Gulf drama has presented during the past five years?

There is boldness in presentation and different ideas, but Gulf drama suffers from a real text crisis. Young people must be given opportunities to highlight their creativity in this field, but some writers must hone their experiences, develop their skills, and benefit from previous experiences, in order to complete the journey of the giant writers of Gulf drama.

Are there other works that you will star in during Ramadan 2024?

I recently finished the series “Luna’s Story” with producer Issam Hijawi and director Laith Hijawi. It is a Jordanian-Gulf work scheduled to be shown in the Ramadan race, and co-starring: Habib Ghuloum, Abeer Issa, Luna Bishara, Hilda Yassin, Omran Al Omran, Laila Al-Salman, Maryam Al-Ghamdi, Turki Al-Karidis, and Ohood Al-Samari. I was honored to participate in this humanitarian drama, which highlights the stories of the struggle once morest the malignant disease, and presents stories of people afflicted with this disease of both sexes, who talk regarding the stories of their illness, and the difficulties and challenges they face in order to overcome it.

Accumulated experiences

Since your beginning, you have presented joint Gulf and Emirati series. How did this contribute to refining your artistic potential, and how do you see the importance of joint works?

Every work I participated in gave me some experience and refined my skills, whether at the level of production, directing, or acting. I learned from adults in these various fields. Each of them had his own idea, style, and method, which made me gain many abilities and skills at the level of acting and reincarnation. Certainly, joint artistic works contribute to the exchange of experiences and cultures, and are an important element for implementing artistic works that serve the “dramatic scene,” with the emergence of series with different ideas and content, which raise the level of the Arab viewer.

During your career, you collaborated with most drama stars. Who is the actor that you would like to participate in an artistic work?

Every real actor, or actress, has talent and high performance, and motivates me to unleash my acting potential. I certainly wish to stand in front of him, especially since I love dialogue scenes, which are a strong acting match.

Despite your quiet personality, you appear in some roles as a strong woman. Do you like roles that advocate for women and show their strength?

Although we live in a patriarchal society, no one denies that women are a fundamental driver in life, and are no less than men in many fields. They struggled and fought, and succeeded in leaving a mark in professional and personal life, so I am drawn to these roles, which show the strength and challenge of women. With life… I am with women, heart and soul.

What do you think of short dramas shown on digital platforms, and will they pull the rug out of 30-episode TV dramas?

Until now, I have not participated in an artistic work that is displayed on one of the digital platforms, and I certainly hope to do so, especially with the great demand for it, and due to the advantage of viewing the works at any time and in any place. However, the channels will still have their audience, and the platforms will also have their audience, most of whom are young people. For myself, I am still loyal to television channels, as I am a supporter of them, and through them I like to follow different types of works, such as: series, news, and songs.

Why are you away from the cinema?

Indeed, I have been very poor at the level of artistic works in general lately, given that I am a mother of twins, and raising them is difficult and a great responsibility. However, at the same time, as I mentioned previously, I do not like to enter an artistic work for the sake of participation and existence only, so I see it as necessary to increase cinematic productions, so that we can participate in good works, executed at a high artistic level.

Aside from art, tell us regarding Haifa (mother and wife), and how do you reconcile your artistic and family life?

I try as much as possible to reconcile my family and work life, and because I am a mother of twins, the issue of upbringing, care and attention is much more difficult, so I devote most of my time to them, and my choices in artistic works are very precise, as I choose the work that I feel will be an addition to my career, as there is between me and my husband. The artist Habib Ghuloum has an artistic and family understanding, as he stands by my side and supports me, and we make a greater effort to balance raising children and our artistic life.
