His friends reported him missing the same day, and extensive search began by air and land involving more than 300 people, NSW Police said in a statement.
Nazari wasn’t found by searchers but by a group of hikers near a trail – about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the search command post – at about 3:15 p.m. on wednesday, January 8.

Video released by the NSW Rural Fire Service showed Nazari with the hikers as he waited for rescuers to arrive.
After surviving for two weeks in the wilderness with minimal food, a young hiker was finally rescued and reunited with his overjoyed family. The hiker, identified as Nazari, was found in remarkably good health despite the ordeal, according to rescuers.
Nazari, a former University of Melbourne student, had been missing for over two weeks when search teams located him in a remote area. He revealed to rescuers that he had managed to find two granola bars in an abandoned hut, which sustained him during his time in the wild. “That’s pretty much all that he’s had to consume over the last two weeks,” said Spliet, one of the rescue team members.
The rescue operation involved a helicopter, which airlifted Nazari to safety. He was then transported to a command post, where paramedics conducted a thorough medical examination. Despite the lack of food and exposure to the elements,Spliet noted that Nazari appeared to be “in really good health.”
“He’s been reunited with his family, who are very, very happy to have him back,” Spliet added, emphasizing the emotional reunion.
The story of Nazari’s survival has captivated many, highlighting both the resilience of the human spirit and the dedication of search and rescue teams. his ability to endure such harsh conditions with limited resources is a testament to his determination and resourcefulness.

After a grueling 13-day search in the rugged terrain of Kosciuszko National Park, missing hiker Nazari was finally located, bringing relief to his family, friends, and the dedicated search teams who worked tirelessly to find him. The dramatic rescue unfolded in one of Australia’s most breathtaking yet challenging hiking destinations, known for its steep trails and panoramic views.
Nazari’s family confirmed his safety, stating, “We talked to him… He is ok… He is fine.” The emotional reunion followed days of uncertainty as search teams combed through the park’s vast 6,900-square-kilometer expanse, battling sweltering summer temperatures and rugged conditions.
In a heartfelt statement released after his rescue, Nazari expressed his gratitude to the emergency services personnel who never gave up on him. “I would like to thank the emergency services for their tireless work searching for 13 days in tough conditions, to locate me,” he said. He also extended his gratitude to the public, family, and friends, adding, “I would also like to thank members of the public, family and friends for their well wishes and prayers.”
The search effort was marked by moments of hope and determination. last week, teams discovered key clues, including discarded garbage and Nazari’s hiking poles. Then, on Sunday, a campfire, a lighter, and a camera believed to belong to the missing hiker were found, signaling that he might be nearby. These discoveries kept the search teams motivated, even as they faced the park’s unforgiving terrain and extreme weather.
Kosciuszko National Park, located in New South Wales, is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts for its challenging trails and stunning alpine scenery. However, its beauty comes with risks, as the park’s remote areas can be treacherous, especially during the summer months when temperatures soar. Despite the harsh conditions, the presence of water sources in the area where Nazari went missing provided some reassurance to the search teams.

As hikers continue to explore the wonders of Kosciuszko National Park, stories like Nazari’s highlight the need for vigilance and respect for nature’s challenges.
