On January 19, the US telecommunications company T-Mobile announced that a recent cyberattack affected the data of 37 million customers.
In the report submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission America (SEC), the company said on January 5, it detected an object trying to break into the computer system and information theft.
After identifying the source of the attack, the company managed to fix the problem within 24 hours, and confirmed that the rest of the system was not affected.

However, following re-evaluating, T-Mobile believes that the attack most likely started on November 25, 2022. The stolen information included customer names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and account numbers. However, the exposed information did not include social security card numbers, tax information or passwords.
T-Mobile emphasized that customers’ accounts and finances are not directly at risk from the attack. Affected customers will be notified and an internal investigation is still underway. T-Mobile said the incident this time might cost the company a lot.
In 2021, a case cyber attack aimed at T-Mobile affected the data of 76.6 million subscribers. The company then agreed to pay $350 million to settle the class-action lawsuit and spend $150 million on data protection and cybersecurity in 2022 and 2023.
