all clear
In this area, Kurath gave the all-clear on Thursday: “Payments such as grants and subsidies have already been paid out or instructed by June 2.” There is an extra system for this. This area is also the first that the country wants to put back into operation.
Around 1.5 million euros in social assistance are paid out in Carinthia every month. Around 12,000 Carinthians are affected this month; 1.6 million euros will be transferred to them, according to social affairs officer Beate Prettner (SPÖ).
Patience for passport
Meanwhile, those who need a passport have to be patient. This is currently not possible at the Carinthian district authorities due to the paralyzed IT system. If you want to apply for a valid document, for example because of an upcoming trip abroad, you can also do this at an authority in another federal state. “You don’t have to apply for the passports in your home district,” explains Kurath.
According to reports, some Carinthians should already dodge: Instead of applying for a passport in Spittal an der Drau, for example, the BH in Lienz, regarding an hour’s drive away, is visited.
Municipal cities like Villach help out with contact tracing. According to the state, these authorities have their own IT systems.
The damage
According to Kurath, the ransom demands of the hackers, behind which the internationally known group ‘Black Cat’ is likely to be, and who are demanding five million dollars in bitcoins, will under no circumstances be met. The damage is unlikely to be as great as initially feared and is mainly due to the fact that the country’s employees are “currently unable to offer the usual service”.
