PHOENIX — Ha-Seong Kim spent his first two major league seasons trying to establish himself. That goal has clearly been achieved by 2023.
Kim has become one of San Diego’s most valuable players. In the Padres win 10-5 over the D-backs on Friday night at Chase Field, his strides paid off as he earned international honors.
Kim went 2 for 5 with one RBI and one run scored, extending his streak of games with at least one hit to 16 games. Not only is it the longest active streak in the majors, but it serves to tie Shin-Soo Choo for the longest hitting streak in MLB by a player born in South Korea. (Choo’s streak came in 2013 with the Reds.)
Kim confessed that he was honored to be able to achieve such a great achievement, especially with all the Korean players he saw grow up.
“I respect everyone who has played here,” Kim said. “I respect all the Korean players who have played in the Major Leagues. I watched them and wanted to be like them.”
