Unable to pay its employees, the company of “gyproc king” Hugo Bernard was placed in receivership at the request of a bank.
For several days, employees of BMNJ Interior Systems had complained regarding not having received their pay.
In the followingnoon, Wednesday, an internal communication indicated that the Laurentian Bank had initiated proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
The PricewaterhouseCoopers firm was appointed receiver by the court.
An emergency loan of $500,000 made it possible to pay employees who had not received their salaries last Thursday.
Lifestyle
In November, our Bureau of Investigation revealed that the president of BMNJ, Hugo Bernard, led a large lifestyle and notably spent a fortune on escorts and hard drugs, according to allegations in a lawsuit. The latter withdrew the day following the publication of our report.

The company is notably a partner of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ in the Maestria real estate project in downtown Montreal.
She is also active in the Solar Uniquartier project, in Brossard, on the South Shore, another project in which the Solidarity Fund is involved.
Another member of the management team, Kenny Roy, also announced his departure recently. The latter would have left his position at BMNJ “for personal reasons”.

The Fonds FTQ distances itself from BMNJ
The Fonds de solidarité FTQ, which is presented as a partner of BMNJ on the company’s website, distances itself from the company.
“As the FTQ Solidarity Fund network has not invested in BMNJ, and the company is not a partner of the Fund network, we do not have to comment on the rumors surrounding it or its financial situation,” commented Patrick McQuilken, spokesperson, in response to a question Tuesday.
In November, the Fonds FTQ, however, offered a more nuanced position, saying it did not want to comment on the situation at BMNJ since “the case is currently before the courts and the Fonds is not involved.”
“The suppliers on our sites are always mandated by the general contractor who is responsible for the construction. That said, we reiterate that good practices and integrity are essential values for us,” added the Fund.
