Gymnasts banned from using political propaganda at tournaments – 05/26/2022

TASS, May 26. The Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has banned athletes from using political, racial and religious propaganda in competition. This was announced on Thursday by the press service of the FIG.

“The Executive Committee has approved a new version of the code of conduct, which strengthens the rules regarding the protection of all competitors,” the FIG said in a statement. “It now contains a provision prohibiting any type of display or the use of political, religious and racial propaganda in tournaments.”

On May 18, the Gymnastic Ethics Foundation (GEF) disciplinary commission suspended Russian gymnast Ivan Kulyak for one year. The athlete at the World Cup stage, which was held at the end of March in Doha, entered the awards ceremony with the letter Z on the form. The letter Z is applied to Russian military equipment participating in a special operation in Ukraine. In Russia, actions are being held in support of the country’s army using the Z symbol.
