The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency decided to investigate the ‘Seongnam FC sponsorship suspicion’ case involving Rep. Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea, transferred from the Bundang Police Station. As a result, the Gyeonggi Nambu Office was in charge of all six investigations into the allegations once morest lawmaker Lee and his family.
According to the Gyeonggi Nambu Office on the 4th, the anti-corruption and economic crime investigation team of the Gyeonggi Nambu Office will take over the case of ‘Songnam FC sponsorship’, which is being investigated by the Bundang-seo, within this week, and the investigation will be completed. At a press conference on the same day, Chung Myung-jin, head of the anti-corruption investigation at the Gyeonggi Southern Office, said, “(In Bundang), I requested that the Gyeonggi Nambu Office be in charge of it because I was overloaded with work, such as investigating crimes for people’s livelihood, and I accepted it.”
After investigating the case of ‘Songnam FC’s unfair sponsorship’ once, the city of Bundang made a decision not to appeal in September last year. However, earlier this year, the prosecution continued the investigation by accepting the request for a supplementary investigation. After the Seongnam City Hall on May 2nd, on the 17th of the same month, the Bundang Police Department conducted a forced investigation, including a search and seizure of the offices of Doosan E&C and Seongnam FC.
Within the Gyeonggi Nambu Office, five cases involving Rep. Lee and his family were anti-corruption and anti-corruption and use of the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) dormitory election office. The Economic Crimes Investigation Unit is in charge of the investigation into the eldest son’s illegal gambling, and the Cyber Investigation Division is in charge.
