Doom’s first appearance, in 1962Capture

Created by Stan Lee y Jack Kirby in 1962, for number five of The Fantastic FourVictor Von Doom is one of the most complex enemies in the Marvel universe. The initial history of the character presents him as a classmate of Reed Richards (future leader of the fantastic quartet), with whom he maintained a relationship of deep intellectual rivalry. After suffering severe burns on his face, the result of a failed experiment, Victo began to use an iron mask, which served the double function of hiding his wounds, inspiring fear in his rivals (Kirby himself assured that this idea was a tribute to The man in the iron mask). Over time, Doom established a dictatorial government in Latveria, a small European nation over which he is absolute sovereign.

The news of Downey Jr. in the role of Doom opens up several possibilities. Considering that the character could make his first appearance in the film The Fantastic Four (which takes place in the sixties), the character could well be an alternative version of Tony Stark. On the other hand, the sixth film of The Avengers are titles Secret Wars, refers to the last comic book saga that bore that name (the first was published in 1984, the second in 1985, and the third in 2015), and which presents a reality in which Doom is a sort of almighty God, who has the support of Doctor Strange.

Finally, and thanks to the fact that the multiverse resource allows to represent several versions of the same character (as seen in Deadpool & Wolverine), it is impossible not to fantasize about Downey Jr. playing some new version of Iron Man, and thus reopening the circle that seemed to end in Endgame. The answer to that, for now, is only available from Marvel.
