Gwyneth Paltrow was one of the first major actors in the MCU, and can boast of having been around since the very beginning, in 2008’s “Iron Man”. She played Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s great love and (after many twists and turns) wife.
After 2019, Robert Downey Jr. famously left Iron Man behind, and Paltrow’s Potts hasn’t been seen since either. But during the night of Sunday, it was confirmed, to the great surprise of the fans, that Robert Downey Jr. returns to Marvel. He doesn’t do it like Tony Stark, though as supersculken Victor von Doom. This is a swing that Gwyneth Paltrow is having a hard time keeping up with. Commenting on Downey Jrs Instagram posts about the revelation she writes:
“I don’t understand, are you a villain now?”
Other Marvel actors are also reacting to Downey’s shift from superhero to supervillain. Jeremy Renner seems to be a little less confused than Paltrow and writes “Bringing the DOOM!!!”, while Mark Ruffalo shared the news in one “>Facebook post writing “Hey brat, green suits you!”
Robert Downey Jr. debuts as Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” den 1 maj 2026 (unless he has some secret cameo planned before then).
