Guyanese Dilhan Will winner of the French C Championship

From June 11 to 12, 2022, in Reunion, 57 overseas runners took part in the French Overseas Regional Committees Championship. Dilhan Will emerged as the big winner of the competition. This is the first time that a Guyanese has won this title. The championship had not taken place since 2009.

New sporting achievement for Guyana in 2022. After 13 years of absence, the French championship of Overseas Regional Committees is back from June 11 to 12, 2022. The best overseas riders competed on the roads of Reunion, host of the competition. Guyanese Dilhan Will won it among the 57 runners from Martinique, Guadeloupe, Reunion, New Caledonia and Tahiti.

The 2022 French Overseas Regional Committees Championship took place in three stages: a 117 km circuit race, a hill climb and an individual time trial. Dilhan Will, who was wearing bib number 48, finished 13th for the 1st stage with a time of 2:41:44. A grouped finish with, in the lead, Raphaël Laautone from Guadeloupe, winner of the stage.

For the hill climb, the Guyanese came first, in 1:24:44, followed by Rayann Lacheny from New Caledonia. He then took the yellow jersey with a 53-second lead. Finally, in the time trial, his specialty, Dilhan Will finished in 8th place. The points won during the previous stages being sufficient, he became the first Guyanese to win this competition.
