Economy Minister Guy Parmelin wants to stand for re-election to the Federal Council during the 2023 winter session. The Vaudois made this announcement on Twitter on Friday.
“For the sake of clarity, I express my desire to stand for re-election to the Federal Council during the winter 2023 session. My motivation is intact,” he said.
Elected on December 9, 2015 to succeed Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, Guy Parmelin has held the Federal Department of Economics, Education and Research (DEFR) since 2019. He had previously spent three years with the Federal Department of Defense.
The announced departure of the socialist Alain Berset for the end of the legislature has revived media speculation regarding a simultaneous retirement of the leader of the DEFR.
