Lara Gut-Behrami failed to finish fifth in the second descent of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Ticino was knocked off the podium by Ragnhild Mowinckel, who set the best time with bib 20 following a very long interruption due to strong gusts of wind. Jacqueline Wiles then created a sensation by finishing 2nd with bib 26.
Second the day before, Lara Gut-Behrami paid dearly for a missed Delta crossing. A jump that was too steep then took him out of the ideal line, costing him precious hundredths of a second. The Ticino woman ultimately failed 0”27 from the third step of the podium occupied by the leader of the discipline’s ranking Sofia Goggia.
Disqualified during the Sölden giant due to too high a level of fluoride, Ragnhild Mowinckel was able to take advantage of ideal conditions almost two hours following the start of this race. The Norwegian picked up her fourth World Cup success, the first in downhill, ahead of Jacqueline Wiles by 0”35.
Gut-Behrami returns to Shiffrin
Third at 0”44 while she was in the lead before the long interruption, Sofia Goggia for her part consolidated her first place in the specialty World Cup. The Italian, in search of a fifth downhill Globe, is 89 points ahead of her first pursuer Stephanie Venier.
Lara Gut-Behrami is third in this ranking, more than 140 points behind Sofia Goggia. Second overall, the skier from Comano is also 295 points behind Mikaela Shiffrin, on forced rest until further notice following her fall the day before. She will be the woman to beat on Sunday in super-G.
