President Gustavo Petro landed this Thursday in Munich, Germany. The objective of this trip, the third international trip this year, is to participate in the sixtieth Security Conference that will be held in that city from February 16 to 18.

As reported by Casa de Nariño, Petro is the only South American head of state invited to this event. The president, according to the Presidency, will participate in the opening panel. “This space has traditionally been reserved for heads of state in Europe or the Euro-Atlantic space,” says the Presidency.

The president arrived with the chancellor in charge, Luis Gilberto Murillo and the director of Social Prosperity, Laura Sarabia.
This conference is expected to be attended by the presidents of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and of Israel, Isaac Herzog; the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, and the Secretary of State of that country, Antony Blinken; the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Before traveling, the president stated: “There they are waiting for us in Munich in a Security Council, it is called exactly that with a foundation that has the name of a German soldier who fought once morest Hitler and who inherited the World Conference of Security”.
Petro added that the meeting will discuss “what are the most fundamental problems of human security today and how we can come together in that alliance as in the past, an alliance for democracy to defeat Hitler, now an alliance for life and democracy to defeat the climate crisis.”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will host the meeting and the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, will open one of the panels.
The participation of nearly 300 delegates from almost one hundred countries is expected, including heads of state and government, directors of international organizations, ministers, parliamentarians, military personnel, scientists, businessmen and members of civil society.
