Sources from the National Police confirmed to EL TIEMPO that eight policemen were murdered this Friday afternoon in the rural area of the department of Neiva, on the way to the corregimiento of San Luis. President Gustavo Petro rejected what happened.

He also asked the authorities to go to the area so that they advance with the investigation work and establish the actions that were perpetrated. The Presidency confirmed that a special investigative commission from the Prosecutor’s Office will arrive.
“I strongly reject the attack with explosives that killed 8 policemen in San Luis, Huila. Solidarity with their families. These facts express a clear sabotage of total peace. I have asked the authorities to travel to the territory to take over the investigation,” the president said on his Twitter account.

Along these lines, the president expressed his solidarity for the uniformed police officers who, according to the authorities’ report, would have been ambushed after having participated in a social welfare activity at the Neiva Metropolitan Police headquarters. The policemen were heading to the village of San Luis.
